I love the big D

Disney Movies

I love Disney. I love Disney World, Disney Land, ABC, Disney movies, and just talking about Disney.  I even went to the College of Disney Knowledge when I was a travel agent years ago.

I remember once when I went down to Disney World on a business trip, I was walking along in the park by myself minding my business, observing the things, when a character came out (it was either the Chipmunks-Chip & Dale,  or Donald Duck, I can't remember which.)  I watched kids all around turn on a dime and run over to the character to get their autographs and photos.  But right near me was a grown woman in her early 50's and who 5 minutes previous was a normal, sane person turn into a sobbing, blubbering mess.  She was so excited to see this character who was a part of her childhood.  In some way, the probably-20-ish year old sweating inside of a gigantic costume disappeared and turned into a rush of warm, happy memories; a piece of her.  In that moment, although all I could do was watch and smile, I was in awe at how powerful the Disney product is.

I'm actually pretty embarrassed about my ignorance about many Disney movies.  If you know me personally, you will be shocked to learn that I have never seen (or at least can't remember) the following Disney staples:

Okay, I'm actually too embarrassed to go on.  Even just looking at the list of Disney movies just now was overwhelming, Someone invite me over and force-feed me Disney movies.

By-the-by, why did I just see whilst scrolling through the list of Disney movies sequels to Beauty & The Beast?

I'm sorry, what?!

What the actual heck?  Does he (Prince ADAM, btw, in case you didn't know...) turn BACK into a beast in some sort of horrible turn of fate?????  WHY ARE WE NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS AND TEACHING IT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS ALONG WITH THE WITCH TRIALS AND THE DEPRESSION AND OTHER HISTORICAL TRAGEDIES?!

While we're on the topic of Disney movie flaws, I know that there are several websites that call out the inconsistencies and flaws in Disney movies, but I have a couple of questions of my own.

1) Since we were just talking about B&B, remember the back story in Beauty & The Beast?

Rose sheds last petal at age 21 + in "Be Our Guest" Lumiere says they've spend the past 10 years rusting, needing so much more than dusting = 11 years old when cursed.

Why were such high expectations put upon an 11 year old?  When I was 11, I would have slammed the door on some ugly witch asking to stay at my house in the middle of a stormy night, too.  The better questions are where were his parents, and why is an 11 year old answering the door of his fully-staffed gigantic castle?

2) In Tangled, Rapunzel is enchanted by the magical floating lanterns that come out on her birthday each year.  Her curiosity about the floating lanterns leads to the entire adventure in the movie about her breaking out of her tower and going to the kingdom and ultimately discovering that she is the lost princess.

Um.... why didn't Mother Gothel just lie about her birthday... and change her name?  So much drama could have been saved if Rapunzel thought the lanterns came out on any other day, like whatever the kingdom's version of Independence Day would be, or Christmas or something.

3) And the final Disney flaw I'll waste your time on is the poor parenting choices in Frozen.  Now, this is something which has been addressed before, but I think about it probably more than I should.  I just agree with this video so much, it sums up exactly how I feel.

Favorites

I am totally behind in the times on all things mass-media related, and I have seen very few recently-made movies, and the only TV I watch is 90's - early 2000's sitcoms, namely The Golden Girls, Seinfeld, Friends, and Everybody Loves Raymond, plus a few more.  I've never watched reality shows, but if there's a good light-hearted show coming out, let me know so that I can try to catch up on recent seasons.  I also recently watched every episode of Once Upon A Time, so if you are a fan, too, let me know so that we can go to each others' houses on Sundays.

Do you have those movies you could (and probably have) watch a thousand times?  What are they?  I think it says a lot about you.  I have my favorite top few movies in rotation on a weekly basis basically before I go to bed. They are: You've Got Mail, Pride & Prejudice, Anchorman, the entire series of Friends, and anything with Tom Hanks.

Don't you love New York in the fall?  It makes me want to buy school supplies.  I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.  -You've Got Mail

Who wants to go to NYC soon?
